The 2JZ-GE is one of the most celebrated inline-six engines ever built — but Lexus choked it with a restrictive factory airbox designed for silence, not airflow. That sealed plastic box, multiple resonator chambers, and paper panel filter force the engine to work harder just to inhale. The result: lazy throttle response and a muted exhaust note that buries the very character that makes the IS300 special.
This Flashark cold air intake replaces the entire factory system with a single-piece 70mm mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube and a high-flow dry cone filter. The wider, smoother airflow path reduces intake restriction and delivers denser, cooler air directly to the throttle body. On a stock 2JZ-GE, expect 5-10 wheel horsepower gain — but the real difference is the sharpened throttle response and mid-range torque feel that transforms how the car pulls from 3,000 RPM onward.
Everything mounts to factory bolt locations with the included bracket and hardware. No cutting, no drilling, no check engine lights. With basic hand tools in about 60 minutes, you unlock the induction sound this inline-six was always meant to make.
Key Features
70mm Mandrel-Bent Aluminum Intake Tube — Single-piece construction with integrated mounting flange. Finished in heat-resistant matte black powder coat. Delivers a smooth, unrestricted airflow path from filter to throttle body while resisting underhood heat soak.
High-Flow Dry Cone Filter — Red cotton-gauze element, 120mm top / 155mm base / 130mm height, 70mm inlet. Dry-type media requires no oiling — clean, rinse, dry, and reinstall. Washable and reusable for the life of the vehicle.
Direct-Fit Silicone Coupler — 70mm × 65mm straight coupler bridges the intake tube to the throttle body with a precise, airtight seal. Heat-resistant silicone won't crack or deform at engine-bay temperatures.
Dual Breather Hoses — Two PCV/vacuum hoses (D13-d7 × 380mm and D13-d7 × 500mm) connect directly to the factory PCV valve and vacuum ports. Maintains closed-loop crankcase ventilation — no CEL triggers.
Complete Installation Hardware — Filter clamp ×1, narrow clamps ×2, mini clamp ×1, M6 anti-vibration mount bracket with washer and lock nut, M6×8 socket-head cap screws ×2, hex key ×1. Everything shown is everything included.
True Bolt-On Design — Integrated mounting bracket aligns with factory bolt holes. No cutting, drilling, or permanent modification required. The stock airbox can be reinstalled at any time.
Aggressive 2JZ Induction Sound — The open-element cone filter and aluminum tubing produce a deep, resonant intake growl under acceleration — exactly what the 2JZ-GE was built to deliver above 4,000 RPM.
5-10 WHP Gain on Stock Tune — Dyno-verified improvement on an otherwise stock 2JZ-GE. Combined with sharper throttle tip-in and stronger mid-range pull. No ECU tune required.

| Years | Make | Model | Trim | Engine |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2002-2006 | Nissan | Altima | S / SE / SL / SE-R | 3.5L VQ35DE V6 |
| 2002-2006 | Nissan | Maxima | SE / SL | 3.5L VQ35DE V6 |
Transmission: Compatible with both 5-speed manual and 4-speed/5-speed automatic (RE5F22A).
Q: Does this intake fit both the Altima and Maxima 3.5L?
A: Yes. Both the 2002-2006 Altima 3.5L (L31 chassis) and 2002-2006 Maxima 3.5L (A34 chassis) use the same transversely mounted VQ35DE engine. The intake tube routing, MAF housing, and mounting points are identical across both platforms. Minor engine bay differences do not affect fitment.
Q: Will this fit the 2.5L 4-cylinder Altima?
A: No. The 2.5L QR25DE engine uses a completely different intake layout, throttle body position, and MAF housing. This kit is designed exclusively for the 3.5L VQ35DE V6. Installing it on a 2.5L would require extensive modification and is not recommended.
Q: How much horsepower will I actually gain?
A: On a stock 2002-2006 Altima or Maxima 3.5L, expect 5-10 wheel horsepower. The VQ35DE already makes 245-265 hp from the factory, depending on year — the most noticeable change isn't peak HP, but throttle response. The engine feels sharper and more eager, especially in the 2,500-4,500 RPM mid-range where the factory intake is most restrictive.
Q: Is the filter oiled or dry?
A: This kit uses a dry cotton gauze filter — no oil required. The VQ35DE uses a hot-wire MAF sensor that is sensitive to oil contamination from over-oiled filters. A dry filter eliminates that risk while still providing 95%+ filtration efficiency. Clean every 15,000 miles or annually with mild soap and water.
Q: Will this intake make my Altima or Maxima louder?
A: Yes — you'll hear a deeper, more aggressive induction growl under throttle, especially above 3,000 RPM. At idle and steady highway cruise, the sound difference is minimal, and there's no droning. If you want to finally hear the VQ35DE breathe, this intake delivers.
Q: Do I need an ECU tune after installation?
A: No tune required for basic installation. The VQ35DE's MAF-based ECU uses adaptive fuel trim learning and automatically adjusts to increased airflow. If you've also installed headers, a cat-back exhaust, or other significant breathing mods, a tune can optimize the combined setup — but for intake-only, the factory ECU handles it.
Q: Will the check engine light come on?
A: Not if installed correctly. A CEL after intake installation on the VQ35DE is almost always due to a vacuum leak (loose hose clamp, disconnected vacuum line) or an MAF sensor connector that wasn't fully seated. Double-check all connections before starting the engine. The most common code is P0171 (system too lean) caused by unmetered air entering through a loose coupler.
Q: Will this intake cause heat soak issues?
A: Some heat soak is possible at idle or in stop-and-go traffic since this is an under-hood intake. However, once the vehicle is moving, airflow through the engine bay quickly normalizes intake air temperatures. For a daily-driven Altima or Maxima, the real-world impact of occasional idle heat soak on performance is negligible.
Q: Is this compatible with the SE-R / 6-speed manual?
A: Yes. The 2005-2006 Altima SE-R with the 6-speed manual transmission uses the same VQ35DE intake layout as other 3.5L trims. Transmission type (automatic or manual) does not affect intake fitment.
Q: Will this improve fuel economy?
A: Some drivers report 1-2 MPG improvement at steady highway speeds, but results vary heavily with driving style. The VQ35DE already has a reputation for being thirsty — if you're driving harder because the intake sounds better (which is very common), MPG may stay the same or decrease. Fuel economy is not the primary purpose of this upgrade.
Q: How does this compare to a K&N or Injen intake for the VQ35DE?
A: The FLASHARK kit delivers the same airflow improvement and throttle response upgrade at a significantly lower price point. The mandrel-bent aluminum tube and dry cone filter provide equivalent performance — the difference is in the brand markup, not the hardware. At under $100, this is the best value intake available for the VQ35DE Altima/Maxima platform.
Q: What's the warranty and return policy?
A: FLASHARK offers a 2-year warranty on this intake kit. If you're not satisfied, we accept returns within 14 days — the product must be unused and in original packaging. For any issues, contact us at service@flasharkracing.com.
