Exhaust Headers vs Stock Manifolds: Silverado 1500 & Chevy/GMC Trucks
Upgrading from the stock manifolds to long tube headers is one of the most effective ways to unlock the potential of your 2014–2017 Silverado 1500 5.3L V8, while also supporting compatibility with Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade models.
Improved Cylinder Scavenging: Long tube headers create a pulse effect that helps pull exhaust gases from the cylinders more efficiently, boosting horsepower and torque.
Better Throttle Response: With reduced backpressure, your engine breathes more freely, allowing for quicker acceleration and smoother performance under load.
Enhanced Exhaust Tone: Headers give your Silverado a deeper, more aggressive sound that stock manifolds simply cannot match.
Fuel Efficiency Benefits: Improved flow can lead to slightly better fuel economy, particularly during highway driving, making them a practical upgrade as well as a performance one.
Shorty vs Long Tube Headers: Silverado 1500 & Chevy/GMC Trucks
For the 2014–2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L and 6.2L V8, shorty headers fit close to the engine block, making installation easier and providing modest low-end power gains while maintaining compatibility with factory catalytic converters. They are also compatible with other GM models like the Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade.
Long tube headers, like Flashark’s, extend further with equal-length tubes to maximize exhaust flow, improve mid- and high-RPM power, and deliver a deeper, more aggressive exhaust tone. While installation is more involved, they provide significantly higher performance and enhanced sound for enthusiasts across the Silverado and other compatible GM trucks and SUVs.
Why Choose Flashark Long Tube Headers?
Flashark Long Tube Headers deliver durability, performance, and a deeper exhaust tone for your Chevy & GMC trucks, or Escalade. Made from seamless 16-gauge 304 stainless steel, they boost horsepower, torque, and throttle response while offering easy, plug-and-play installation.

Vehicle Overview: Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3L / 6.2L
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is one of the most widely recognized full-size pickups in North America, celebrated for its balance of power, towing capability, and everyday usability. For the 2014–2017 model years, the Silverado 1500 is available with the 5.3L V8 and the 6.2L V8 engines. The 5.3L V8 serves as the most common choice, offering an excellent combination of fuel efficiency, torque, and horsepower, making it ideal for both daily driving and moderate towing. The 6.2L V8 provides higher output for drivers seeking maximum performance and heavier towing capacity, and it responds exceptionally well to performance upgrades such as long tube headers.
While the Silverado 1500 5.3L is the primary focus for performance enhancements, Flashark Long Tube Headers are also fully compatible with other GM models that share these engine options, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, and GMC Yukon.
FAQ
Q1: Will Installing Flashark Long Tube Headers On My Silverado 1500 Qr GM Truck Trigger A Check Engine Light (CEL)?
In most cases, Flashark Long Tube Headers for 2014–2017 Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade (5.3L/6.2L) do not trigger a Check Engine Light when installed correctly. Some vehicles may display a CEL due to O2 sensor placement or catalytic converter efficiency, especially with aftermarket exhaust systems. Using O2 sensor extensions or a professional ECU tune can prevent CEL issues entirely.
Q2: Do I Need An ECU Tune After Installing Flashark Long Tube Headers?
An ECU tune is highly recommended but not strictly required. Your 2014–2017 GM 5.3L/6.2L V8 will run without a tune, but proper calibration helps:
Maximize horsepower and torque gains
Optimize air/fuel ratios
Prevent possible CEL codes
Improve throttle response and drivability
Most owners of Silverado 1500 and other compatible GM models choose a tune after installing long tube headers for the best performance results.
Q3: WIll These Headers Pass Emissions Or Inspection?
Flashark Long Tube Headers are designed for maximum performance and may not be legal for road use in states with strict emissions laws (e.g., California). For most 2014–2017 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade models, headers without factory catalytic converters may not pass emissions testing. Always check your local and state regulations before installation.
Q4: Does This Kit Include Bolts, Gaskets, And Installation Hardware?
Yes. The Flashark Long Tube Headers kit includes gaskets, bolts, and all necessary mounting hardware for 2014–2017 Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade. For best results, consider using new OEM-quality gaskets if your existing ones are worn.
Q5: How Difficult Is Installation? Do I Need A Lift?
Installing long tube headers on a 2014–2017 5.3L/6.2L GM V8 is a moderate-to-advanced job requiring:
3–5 hours of labor
Basic hand tools
Access to a lift or raised jack stands
A lift makes installation much easier, especially when routing the long primary tubes around the frame. Professional installation is recommended for optimal fit and performance.
Q6: Are These Headers Compatible With The Factory O2 Sensors?
Yes. Flashark Long Tube Headers are designed to work with the factory O2 sensors on 2014–2017 Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade. Some vehicles may require O2 sensor extensions depending on configuration to ensure proper engine operation and prevent CELs.
Q7: Will These Headers Work With The Stock Exhaust System?
Yes. Flashark headers are compatible with the factory cat-back exhaust and most aftermarket systems. The standard collector size allows easy connection to common aftermarket Y-pipes or mid-pipes on 5.3L/6.2L GM trucks and SUVs.
Q8: How Much Horsepower Can I Gain?
Owners of 2014–2017 Chevy and GMC 5.3L/6.2L trucks and SUVs report 8–20 HP gains, depending on:
ECU tuning
Additional exhaust modifications
Overall engine condition
These headers improve exhaust scavenging, throttle response, and mid-range torque.
Q9: Will Long Tube Headers Improve Fuel Economy?
Yes. Many owners see a 1–2 MPG improvement after installing Flashark Long Tube Headers, especially when paired with a proper tune. Reduced backpressure and improved airflow allow the engine to operate more efficiently under load.
Q10: Do These Headers Fit Both 2wd And 4wd Models?
Yes. Flashark Long Tube Headers are engineered to fit both 2WD and 4WD versions of the 2014–2017 Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Escalade. Some 4WD models may require minor clearance adjustments due to transfer case or steering shaft positioning, which is normal for long tube header installations on GM K2XX platform trucks.
The headers where perfect but they rubbed in the steering column and the frame just the driver side header. The y pipe didn’t seem to want to fit either so there’s a hole under the transmission where they connect. Other than that pretty good sound and quality

2014 GMC Sierra 1500
Was a little hesitant to buy these, but they arrived 2 days early. When I opened the box I was VERY PLEASED with the product. Figment on the driver side was tight on the steering shaft but it was already expected after reading previous reviews. Al and all I would highly recommend this product and place of business!
Thank you for your comment and I look forward to receiving your feedback pictures!

Great product for great price.
They were up against the steering is still currently rubbing. But over time, i've been taking a file and filing it down. I'm also getting a sound of air coming from where the headers are connected.I've been told it's either a broken gasket, or they just need to be tightened about a quarter of a term.Does anybody know what size of bolt head these are??? It weighs help greatly, ty

Good bang for buck
Works but needed persuasion and hard to eliminate the exhaust leaks between connecting pipes and the headers sound a little tinny, overall worked good though for the money!

Put this catch can on my ’21 Q60. Install was straightforward, hoses lined up perfectly. Engine feels smoother on acceleration, and I’m confident it’s preventing future carbon buildup.
Put these on my ’10 G37 Coupe last month. Fitment was spot-on, install went smooth, and no rattles or leaks after a few hundred miles. Noticeable bump in power and a deeper exhaust tone without too much drone.
Installed these on my ’08 G37X over the weekend, and I’m impressed. The fitment was spot-on, no weird gaps or alignment issues. Throttle response feels snappier, and there’s a nice bump in low-end torque. The sound is a bit more aggressive but still daily-driver friendly.
I installed these on my 2012 G37 Coupe. Fitment was decent—took some effort around the steering shaft but nothing crazy. Once installed, the car feels more responsive and definitely pulls harder above 4K RPM. The sound is throatier too, especially at wide open throttle. Paired with a tune, it made a noticeable difference. So far, no leaks or issues.
