Unlock Maximum Performance: Flashark B48 Catless Downpipe Upgrade
The B48 2.0L TwinPower Turbo is BMW's workhorse four-cylinder — and the factory catalytic converter is the single biggest restriction in the exhaust path. On non-US market models, the OEM downpipe chokes exhaust flow right where the turbo needs to breathe, raising backpressure, slowing spool, and capping your power ceiling.
This Flashark catless downpipe replaces the factory cat section with a straight-through mandrel-bent stainless steel pipe, purpose-built for international B48-powered BMWs on G/F chassis platforms. The result: faster turbo spool, 25–30 WHP gains (with a Stage 2 tune), sharper throttle response, and a more aggressive exhaust note with deeper pops and burbles on deceleration — all without excessive cabin drone.
Non-US market only. Will NOT fit US-spec B48 vehicles. Will NOT fit models equipped with an OPF (Otto Particulate Filter). RHD models may require clearance adjustments around the steering column.
Key Features
Catless Straight-Through Design — Eliminates the factory catalytic converter, the B48's largest exhaust restriction. Unrestricted flow from the turbo outlet means faster spool, lower EGTs, and measurable power gains — especially above 3,000 RPM where the OEM cat is most restrictive
25–30 WHP Gains with Stage 2 Tune — Dyno-validated power increase when paired with a proper ECU tune (BM3, MHD, or bootmod3). The catless downpipe + tune is the single highest-ROI modification on the B48 platform
Mandrel-Bent Stainless Steel Piping — Smooth radius bends maintain consistent inner diameter through every curve — no crush-bent restrictions, no turbulence pockets. TIG-welded joints for leak-free sealing under boost
Direct Bolt-On for LHD Models — Precision-engineered to replace the factory downpipe using OEM mounting points and flange patterns. No cutting, no welding, no fabrication required on Left-Hand Drive models
Universal Cat-Back Compatibility — Bolts to both the stock OEM cat-back and all aftermarket exhaust systems (Akrapovič, Remus, Armytrix, etc.). No adapter needed
Pre-Welded O2 Sensor Bungs — Factory O2 sensors thread directly into the pre-welded bungs at the correct depth and position. No drilling, no welding — simply transfer the sensors from the stock pipe
Aggressive Exhaust Note — The catless design unlocks the B48's turbo spool whistle and deeper exhaust tone. More aggressive on throttle, sporty pops and burbles on deceleration — without the highway drone that plagues poorly designed systems

Q: Will this fit my US-spec BMW 330i with the B46 engine?
A: No. This downpipe is exclusively designed for non-US market BMW models with the B48 engine. The US-market BMW 330i uses the B46 engine, which has different emissions equipment (including a second catalytic converter position) and different exhaust routing. The downpipe flange patterns and sensor positions are not interchangeable between B48 and B46. If you have a US-spec vehicle, this product will not fit.
Q: Will this fit my 2019 BMW 330i (F30) xDrive?
A: Yes — provided your vehicle is a non-US market model with the B48 engine. This downpipe fits all 2016–2020 BMW 330i (F30/F31) including xDrive models. The xDrive AWD system does not affect downpipe fitment — the exhaust routing from the turbo to the mid-pipe is the same on RWD and xDrive configurations. Verify your car has the B48 (not the US-spec B46) before ordering.
Q: Do I need a tune after installing this downpipe?
A: Yes, absolutely required. This is a catless downpipe — it removes the factory catalytic converter. Without a Stage 2 ECU tune, your BMW will trigger a check engine light (CEL) for catalyst efficiency below threshold on both banks. You need a tuning solution such as BM3 (Bootmod3), MHD, or ECUtek to disable the secondary O2 monitoring, clear the CEL, and retune fueling and boost targets for the increased exhaust flow. The tune is also what unlocks the full 25–30 WHP power gains — a downpipe without a tune leaves most of the potential untapped.
Q: Are these downpipes catted or catless?
A: Catless. This downpipe removes the factory catalytic converter entirely for maximum exhaust flow. It is designed for off-road, track, and competition use only. Street use on public roads may violate local emissions regulations. Check your country's or region's regulations before purchasing.
Q: What does OPF mean — and how do I know if my car has one?
A: OPF stands for Otto Particulate Filter — a diesel-style particulate filter that BMW introduced on some European and international B48 models starting around 2018 to meet Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standards. If your BMW was sold in Europe and is a 2018+ model, it may have an OPF. You can check by looking under the car — the OPF is a large canister in the exhaust system after the downpipe. If your car has an OPF, this downpipe will NOT fit. Contact us at support@flasharkracing.com with your VIN for fitment confirmation.
Q: Will this fit Right-Hand Drive (RHD) BMW models?
A: Yes, with a caveat. This downpipe is designed primarily for Left-Hand Drive (LHD) models. On RHD vehicles (UK, Australia, Japan, South Africa), the steering column and associated components occupy space that the downpipe routing passes through on LHD models. Some RHD installations require minor clearance adjustments or small modifications around the steering column area to achieve a perfect fit. If you have an RHD vehicle, we recommend professional installation.
Q: How much horsepower will I gain?
A: With a proper Stage 2 ECU tune, expect 25–30 WHP and 30–40 lb-ft of torque over a stock-downpipe tune on the B48 2.0L TwinPower Turbo. The gains come from three sources: (1) the catless downpipe eliminates the largest exhaust restriction, allowing the turbo to breathe more freely and spool faster, (2) the Stage 2 tune increases boost pressure and optimizes timing for the reduced backpressure, and (3) lower EGTs mean the turbo can sustain peak output longer without heat soak. Gains are most noticeable from 3,000 RPM to redline.
Q: Can I install this myself?
A: On LHD models, installation is bolt-on but requires mechanical experience, proper tools, and access to a lift or jack stands. Plan 2–4 hours. Key steps: raise the vehicle, remove underbody panels, disconnect O2 sensors, unbolt the factory downpipe from the turbo flange and mid-pipe connection, install the Flashark downpipe with the supplied gaskets and hardware, and reconnect the O2 sensors. Soak all factory exhaust fasteners in penetrating oil 24 hours before — BMW exhaust bolts seize easily. Professional installation is recommended if you have not worked on a BMW exhaust system before, especially on RHD models.
Q: How does this compare to Akrapovič or Remus downpipes?
A: Akrapovič and Remus catless downpipes for the B48 typically cost $700–$1,200+. They use comparable stainless steel construction and similar piping design. The Flashark delivers the same fundamental benefit — unrestricted catless flow with pre-welded O2 bungs and TIG-welded construction — at roughly one-third to one-half the price. The trade-off: Akrapovič and Remus carry stronger brand prestige, longer warranty terms, and integrated exhaust system tuning support. Flashark includes a 1-year warranty and US-based email support. For a budget B48 Stage 2 build, the Flashark is the highest-value catless downpipe on the platform.
Q: What's the material — will it rust?
A: This downpipe is constructed from 201 stainless steel with a polished finish — solid stainless throughout, not painted or coated mild steel. 201 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance against exhaust condensate, moisture, and road salt. In regions with heavy road salt use, periodic undercarriage rinsing during winter months helps maintain the polished appearance. The 1-year warranty covers material defects.
Q: Will this pass emissions inspection?
A: No. This catless downpipe removes a mandated emissions control device. It will fail a visual inspection (missing catalytic converter), an OBD-II scan (catalyst efficiency codes), and a tailpipe emissions test where applicable. This product is intended for off-road, competition, and track use only. If your country or region performs emissions testing, do not install this downpipe on a street-registered vehicle.
Q: What's your return policy and warranty coverage?
A: Flashark offers a 30-day return policy — if you're not satisfied, return the downpipe in unused, original condition for a full refund with no restocking fee. For installed products, contact our support team at support@flasharkracing.com and we'll work with you on a resolution. The downpipe is covered by a 1-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects including weld cracks, flange warping, and material issues. This warranty does not cover damage from improper installation, collision, or misuse. US-based email support is available for fitment questions, installation guidance, and warranty claims.
